Are You Still Seeing Red?

I watch a lot of sports on TV and the NFL takes up many hours of my Sundays during the fall and winter. The way the Bears have been playing during the past few years, it’s a lot easier to enjoy my football TV time with The Redzone Channel. I think it’s one of the greatest ideas in the history of sports on TV. For those who aren’t aware, Redzone’s commercial-free "whip-around” format allows viewers to watch literally every touchdown from every Sunday game during the early and late afternoon window. A stroke of NFL marketing genius.
The only issue is that no matter whether you subscribe to your NFL viewing enjoyment on cable, satellite or a streaming service, Redzone is an extra monthly add-on cost. In my case, with YouTube TV, it’s an extra $10.99 a month for their Sports Plus package which includes Redzone and about 15 other channels with sports that I’m really not into. Your interests may vary from mine, but for me, spending $10.99 a month for the rest of those sports offerings is not worth it.
So, as I write this on what’s known as Black Monday (where many NFL coaches lose their jobs), I’m calling my day Red Monday where I lose my Sports Plus package. It just took one push of a button on my YouTube TV application to make the cancelation. The good news is that come September, as the NFL season begins anew, I’ll push that button again and resubscribe to Redzone. The only difference is that I’ll have saved over $75. Yes, I’ll lose Poker Go+ TV, but I’ll get by.
I highly recommend that if you subscribe to a package that includes Redzone, that you carefully look at the other channels included in that package. If they do not have a lot of interest for you, cancel it. While $75 may not seem like a lot, it’s one of many tricks that I've learned which has allowed me to save households from hundreds to even thousands of dollars per year on their TV, Cellular and Internet costs.
