Ryan Reynolds Just Made a Mint

And we all thought that Ryan Reynolds was a just a nice Canadian actor who has done some pretty good work in films like “Deadpool”, “Detective Pikachu” and “Red Notice”. Well, it turns out that as a businessperson, he ain’t acting! You know all those commercials for Mint Mobile where Ryan claims that he is the owner…well it turns out that he actually does own around 25% of that company. That 25% will lead to Ryan’s greatest act yet as he stands to make almost 300 million dollars as a result of today’s purchase of Mint Mobile by T-Mobile. That will jump Ryan into Brad Pitt money territory as far as actor net-worth goes.
But Ryan is not acting when he goes into business. What he has been able to do is to combine his gift for acting with his gift of business acumen like few, if any, stage or screen person ever has. He not only has a knack for investing in companies such as Mint, but he also stars in their commercials and his “nice guy” persona is perfectly suited to the youthful target audience that Mint is trying to reach. He even uses his mother in some commercials. I sure hope mom gets a nice yacht out of the deal.
But Mint is only one of Ryan’s investments. He also owns a piece of Aviation Gin, Wealthsimple and 1Password. And in perhaps his whackiest investment, in 2020, Ryan and his buddy, Rob McEhelnney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), purchased the oldest Welsh football (soccer for us Americans) club, Wrexham AFC. They were founded in 1864 when Abraham Lincoln was trying to put our house back together again. When Ryan and Rob bought the team, Wrexham’s house was in about as bad of an order as ours was in 1864. Since then, the team has steadily gotten better. While they are still in the fifth tier of English football, as I write this, they currently are sitting on top of that tier, one point ahead of Notts County which, as we all know, is located in Nottingham. English football has this thing called Relegation. After each season, the top teams from a lower tier move up to the next level while the bottom teams from an upper tier move down a level. So, Wrexham may be on its way to the fourth tier next season.
Not only that, but Ryan and Rob took their acting skills and, in a take on life imitating art, they did their own version of “Ted Lasso”. They took their football ownership to TV with the series, “Welcome to Wrexham”. It tells the story of how a couple of actors bought the third oldest football club in the world and their hopes of turning the Wrexham “Red Dragons” from an underdog to a proper football club. So far, it seems to be working as the fans are onboard and the team is doing a lot better.
So, maybe Ryan Reynolds has the right idea by investing in things like Wrexham and Mint Mobile. If things keep going the way they have been for him, he’s going to be able to open his own mint and I don’t mean mobile phones.
